In the last episode of Season three of You, our anti-hero pretended to die. At the end of the previous season, he flew towards France in quest of Marriene (Tati Gabrielle). She attempted to put the entire Ocean in between them. But, as we all know, nothing stops Mr. Goldberg.

In the first episode of season 4 of You, Joe is introduced as a pseudonymous London resident who teaches a university short fiction course. Flashbacks provide us tiny glimpses into how Joe's hunt for Marriane unfolded. We also get to meet the exclusive group of Londoners Joe is currently hanging out with. They are all as irritating and unlikeable as most of us assume wealthy people to be. Setting the stage for the journey ahead, it's a strong opening episode.

Under the guise of Jonathan Moore, Joe instructs a short story class at a university in London. Joe is loving his new position and the opportunity to live quietly, lay low, and let the past dramas go, even if he still misses Marriene. Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman), one of his pupils, is highly impressed with Professor Moore's preference for teaching contemporary authors like Ted Chiang rather than classics like Hemingway and sends him an autobiography by renowned novelist and potential London mayor Rhys Monrose (Ed Speleers).

Joe encounters his new social group

Joe enjoys observing his couple's neighbors Malcolm (Stephen Hagan) and Kate while he isn't molding the minds of British adolescents. While Kate is a hardworking owner of an art gallery that Joe tries very, really hard to avoid becoming fascinated with, Malcolm is a fellow university professor whom Joe despises for being a wealthy drinker.

He was supposed to be hiding out and taking a break from his stalker inclinations, after all. Despite Joe's best efforts to avoid interaction with people, he unintentionally finds himself defending Kate from a group of muggers. As a result, Malcolm invites Joe to the recently built Sundry House, an "absurdly elitist" club where only the elite can hang around.

After disposing of the unfortunate Malcolm, Joe returns to the present and meets Rhys in the Sundry House. There, they have an in-depth discussion about life and redemption.

Another flashback reveals Joe Goldberg's transformation into Jonathan Moore. It comes out that Elliot (Adam James), the fixer for the Quinn family locates Joe and is seeking justice for Love's murder. Instead, Elliot made the decision to trade Joe's money from Love's accounts for a new identity. Elliot did, however, attach one requirement to the generous offer: he required Joe to look after Marriene.

Joe maintains his resolution to let go of the lady he loves while being unable to kill her. He follows her to the train station, steals her locket, and then waits to catch the train back to Paris while watching her board. He then tells Elliot a lie about what happened. Joe meets Kate at the university, and she extends a dinner invitation to him at Lady Pheobe's request.

Kate is extremely obvious in her disapproval of our protagonist. But our favorite serial killer has even more difficulties. He receives a bizarre text from someone claiming to be Malcom's real killer as he is ready to enter the dinner party. Joe is now certain that one of his new acquaintances is responsible for the murder. Before he finds himself on the receiving end of a knife, can he identify who it is?

You is now available for streaming on Netflix.
