In the first season of You, Joe Goldberg, a bookshop manager in New York, finds Guinevere Beck, a budding author, and immediately falls in love with her.

Episode 1 of You: "Pilot"

After meeting aspiring author Guinevere Beck, bookshop manager Joe Goldberg researches her online. He begins to follow Beck, observe her social contacts, and even break into her house while she is not there.

Episode 2 of You: "The Last Nice Guy in New York"

Joe is unsure of how to deal with Benji, a trust fund child who is addicted to drugs. He yearns to be set free. Meanwhile, Beck's professor jeopardizes housing and her employment as a teaching assistant after she refuses his advances. Peach, a wealthy acquaintance of Beck, has doubts about Joe.

Episode 3 of You: "Maybe"

While Blythe is bullying Beck, a competing graduate student, Joe makes arrangements for how to dispose of Benji's remains. After learning that Beck is continuing to have sex with different men to move past Benji, Joe intensifies his efforts to persuade her that he's "the one" for her. Beck is heard referring to Joe as a "maybe" by her pals, which Joe overhears Beck saying.

Episode 4 of You: "The Captain"

Beck secretly texts her pals about Joe's lackluster flirting, which he witnesses on her old phone. Joe, who is still reading Beck's communications, discovers that Beck has weekend arrangements. She refers to this senior citizen she refers to as "The Captain" & lies to her pals about it. An envious Joe follows her to the Charles Dickens celebration in Nyack. Here he discovers that the guy is her father, Edward, whom she had earlier claimed was deceased.

Episode 5 of You: "Living with the Enemy"

Joe wants to neutralize Peach, but Peach is still skeptical of him. Joe recognizes Peach's later hoax suicide attempt and learns by looking at her laptop that she has a crush on Beck.

Episode 6 of You: "Amour Fou"

In recovery, Beck banishes Joe while Peach stays with her. Joe informs Beck that Peach is infatuated with her and attempting to maintain Beck's dependence on her. When Peach whisks Beck away to the Salinger family property in Greenwich, Joe sneaks along, but he hurts his head and starts seeing his ex-girlfriend Candace in his thoughts. Raj, an old friend of Peach and Beck, is invited over.

Episode 7: "Everythingship"

Joe uses the identity of Paul to schedule a session with Dr. Nicky, Beck's therapist. After Peach died a month earlier, his relationship with "Renaldo," who was Beck, was going well, but then it gradually soured. Joe follows Beck out of jealousy as she exhibits an increase in her moodiness, distance, and secrecy, but she finds him.

Episode 8: "You Got Me, Babe"

Three months after Joe and Beck split up, Joe is contently seeing Karen, and Beck has won a book deal thanks to her account of Peach's passing. After running into Joe at a food truck, Beck starts to miss him and texts him. Dr. Nicky receives confessions from both Beck and Joe: Beck denies flirtation with Joe but is convinced Karen is the wrong person for him, and Joe has begun to contrast his new love, "Brad" (Karen), with his former, "Renaldo" (Beck).

Episode 9: "Candace"

Joe remembers Candace having an affair with Elijah, whom he then confronts and knocks off a bridge, killing him instantly. Due to Joe's refusal to discuss Candace with her, Beck launches her own inquiry to find exactly what transpired between the two and why nobody ever heard about Candace again.

Season Finale: "Bluebeard's Castle"

Joe finds out Peach's family has engaged a private detective to inquire into her death from Annika and Lynn. Beck is inspired by her confinement to write about the choices she made that led to her current predicament.
