Her immediate hurdle is dodging a surge of police who are investigating her hospital admission due to a lack of identification. Disguised as a nurse, Erin attempts to leave the facility. Suspicion arises when a police officer shares an elevator with her. A hurried call to Jordi ends abruptly when her phone dies, and the chase is on. Erin steals a police vehicle and eludes capture thanks to her driving skills.

Meeting up with Jordi, Erin changes outfits. Emilio advises her to fabricate a believable story to keep Jordi around. Lena receives news of a higher-security prison transfer and canceled probation due to her previous attack on a homeowner. While at the library, Lena stumbles upon a news article featuring Erin.

Taking Emilio's advice, Erin fabricates an alcohol issue to Jordi, who arranges an AA meeting for her. Harper shares her fears with Erin, who comforts her. Disturbingly, Erin discovers Harper’s drawings that depict the robbery and refer to Lena as "aunt."

Emilio cracks a major case through illegal means, posing a dilemma. Erin’s AA meeting lie is exposed by a senior woman, prompting her to reevaluate her relationship with Jordi. Erin confronts Emilio about the jeopardizing evidence linking back to her, putting both at risk.

Erin starts tutoring Dylan after school, impressing his father, Daniel, who commends her with a favorable reference, revealing that Olivia, not Penelope, had maligned her earlier.

Assigned to Margot’s case, Emilio subtly threatens Erin to undertake another mission to bust a drug ring. She's hesitant and walks away. Harper, overhearing Emilio call her Kate, forces Erin to divulge the truth about her birth mother.

Jordi’s reaction to Erin’s honesty about Harper is less than positive. Lena, meanwhile, escapes custody during her transfer. A sudden turn of events shows Jordi being stabbed. Daniel, the mastermind behind the drug ring, is surprised to find Erin at the crime scene.

"Who is Erin Carter" hits a new low in Episode 5, suffering from a glaring lack of coherency and connection between characters. The episode misses its single chance for tension when Jordi doesn’t pursue Emilio's background check. Sadly, the problems persist, with Lena’s far-fetched escape exemplifying the flaws riddling the episode and, by extension, the show.
