The fifth episode of Transatlantic opens with the boys returning to Camp Des Milles. Thankfully, they are still alive, and the operation as a whole is still feasible. They will eventually reveal Mary Jayne's role in this if they talk. Margaux decides Mary Jayne is on her own since she doesn't want that to happen to her. Even Thomas remains mute throughout this comment. To get the lads out of the camp, Mary Jayne must devise an escape strategy.

As Christmas approaches, Thomas and Varian discuss whether they should celebrate at the Villa. So, given that he gets fired, it makes sense that he isn't in the mood to celebrate. It gets worse in the morning when Dillon, his successor from the US Embassy, arrives.

Varian doesn’t tell the others what’s going on. He does not want to squash their hopes of a passage out of the country and tries to remedy this before it’s too late. The thing is, the damage is already done by Patterson. He reveals the truth about him and Thomas via a telegram we saw several episodes back.

Paul and Albert talk to Mary Jayne. She asks for their assistance in getting the English out of the camp. If Paul assists, she guarantees to get him a meeting with Margaux. This would be a huge step in the right direction for his revolt plans.

Paul explores the prison and discovers a secure location where the resistance may gather, with the guys who work at the prison camp on their side. Although some people oppose assisting and cooperating with the Brits, it is undeniable that they now have similar objectives. That would be important for their resistance efforts if they could pull this off.

The guard we saw before promises to give Paul and the others a small window to break in and get the men out, but it’s only up to 60 seconds so time is very much against them.

Fortunately, one of the refugees in the villa is familiar with the camp and identifies a hole in the wire that they can use to free themselves. While Mary Jayne agitates the soldiers on the main grounds while holding her dog, Paul dons his guard garb and climbs to the tower to break into the camp.

By picking up Lisa's husband Hans Fittko on the way out of camp, Paul helps the gang just barely make it without incident. They ride back to the villa in Mary Jayne's car, one dog lighter. Hans and Lisa reconcile, and Albert encourages Mary Jayne not to cry while he opens up to her.

This difficult mission was a success and he reveals how amazing she is. Albert tells Mary Jayne that she needs to keep moving forward. And these inspiring words, sees the pair kiss and spend the night together,

In the morning, Albert finds a letter and heads up to the rooftop. It’s a letter from his sister, Ursula, telling him to pick up a passport and head over to Lisbon so they can be together.

Meanwhile, Varian does some soul-searching and ends up talking to one of the refugees at the villa, Hannah. She’s currently homeless, as she has no way of returning to Germany given she’s a Jew. Varian speaks to his contact, Bingham, and tries to get Hannah a Visa and a way out of Marseille. Varian is fully dedicated to the cause now and tells Bingham to do what he can. Bingham compromises and promises to smuggle 3 out a week.

Transatlantic is now streaming on Netflix.
