When having a moment alone upstairs, Mary Jayne and Albert are disturbed by the police continuing with their raid. In an effort to argue his position, Varian mentions that both men and women

Their real target is clearly Mr. Benjamin. He goes out of the hotel through the basement and out the back. Paul leads them through, where Lisa prepares to take a handful of refugees across the border of Spain. On the way, there are numerous troubles with Benjamin, with his mental state causing issues for the group. Still, they make it over the border all the same.

The officer asks them to wait in the hotel next door. They are displaying their passports and appear to have entered the country legally. Understanding that this is the end of the trip, Benjamin becomes uneasy. He insists that his book must reach America if he is unable to finish it. He confides in Lisa to keep it in his briefcase.

Unfortunately, he dies that evening by suicide and leaves a letter to prove it. He and his briefcase are with Lisa. When we finally inspect what's inside the suitcase, we discover a snow globe.

As for Mary Jayne and Varian, they head up to the Villa with Thomas and ask him for help to house the refugees. Mary Jayne is ecstatic at this find, believing it’s the perfect place to house the refugees. Varian is not happy with the idea of being so close to his love interest, but Thomas looks at him dead in the eye, revealing that he’s “used to danger”.

Thomas and Varian spend the evening together since Thomas is acting as the "fairy godmother" for these refugees. It turns out that Varian's wife is aware of who he is and probably knows about his affair, but Varian prefers to keep his personal and work lives separate. He doesn't want his emotions to cloud his judgment and endanger the migrants.

When Mary Jayne learns that her father has stopped giving her money, she finds herself in trouble. She is on her last few dollars after he stopped wiring her money. When she tells Graham Patterson that her father would be staying in Marseille for her admirable cause, it necessitates some flattery.

Albert can sense something is up but can’t put his finger on it when Mary Jayne heads back and the pair end up having a lover’s tiff of sorts, while Thomas immediately susses out what’s up. She’s in a tough dilemma. If Mary Jayne leaves and heads to Chicago, she could get her money unfrozen and send funds back to make a real difference. Thomas though has just the solution to her money problems and promises she can make a difference if she stays in France.

Transatlantic is now streaming on Netflix.
