When they begin to experience superhuman side effects brought on by a gene treatment they participated in as children, Tilda, Abbi, and Juan find themselves in a crisis.

The three go to meet Dr. Alex Sarkov in an effort to find a solution as the abrupt changes into monster-like creatures upset their way of life.

They are at the mercy of Dr. Sydney Burke, a colleague of Sarkov's, who tells them that they are the victims of Sarkov's brutal and incurable genetic experiment. Burke recounts how Sarkov infused them with artificial stem cells, taking advantage of their genetic diseases to have life-altering side effects.

When their commander, Nate appears as a victim, the superhuman trio stumbles onto the den of three renegade scientists while looking for Sarkov. Finch brutally murders Lindt, Yake, and two other scientists with Hannah's assistance. Hannah is ignorant of Finch's violent deeds.

Flux agents act as police officers while searching for the group. An injured Juan ends up at his brother, Alejandro's house in Portland. In front of his niece Paloma, Juan assumes the appearance of the Chupacabra as he is confronted by agent Sampson.

While Sarkov conducts experiments on Burke to find a cure, Flux's armed operatives surround Burke's home. Nate gains the capacity to kill or cause long-lasting hallucinations in his victims, adding another monster to the city.

Sarkov intends to disperse his enhanced stem cells using Nanobots that the trio stole from Dr. Monday, another researcher. Abbi, understandably impatient after the lengthy wait, creates the cure-all on her own using Sarkov's mitochondria. Tilda, once again betrays Juan and Abbi, hooks up with Sarkov and flees.
