The feedback doesn't sit well with Charlie's parents. As a result, they impose a ban: no meeting Nick post-school until the History essay is complete. Charlie's disappointment and frustration are palpable. Reaching out to Nick, they share a light moment, jesting that the universe conspires against their rendezvous.

Parallelly, the episode touches upon Nick's estranged relationship with his brother, who's back in town. In a brief conversation with his mother, Nick voices his preference to keep his association with Charlie discreet.

At school, the air is thick with prom excitement. Tara, Darcy, and Elle are all aflutter, brainstorming for the perfect attire. A fellow student ropes them into prom preparations. While they gather post-lessons, Elle's evident distraction, caused by a message from Tao, doesn't go unnoticed. Darcy sees it as an opportunity for Elle to make a move. Tara, on the other hand, insists that Elle keeps her earlier resolution to move past Tao. Elle's final decision? A message to Tao, mentioning her prior engagements.

The episode sheds light on the mounting strain between Charlie and Nick. Juggling contrasting timetables, their interactions are fleeting. An innocent lie about a pen provides Charlie a brief chance to converse with Nick. However, tensions surge as Charlie and Ben, his disliked partner, engage in a physical altercation, prompting Mr. Farouk's intervention: confining both to an isolated room.

This confinement reveals deeper narratives. Nick openly despises Ben due to a past assault on Charlie. Ben's defense revolves around personal hardships and misconceptions. Unexpectedly, we unearth that Ben is now romantically with Imogen. Nick's unease revolves around the potential threat Ben poses to Imogen, while Ben throws Nick's uncertainties back at him.

A heated moment unfolds when David, Nick's brother, clandestinely browses Nick's messages. The confrontation prompts a meet-up at the park between Nick and Charlie, where moments of joy are captured and shared online, leaving Charlie elated.

Elsewhere, Elle's participation in an event at The Lambert School of Art leads to friendships and shared apprehensions regarding art school admissions. An unexpected bond forms between Elle and Naome, both navigating high school as transgender students. Tao, witnessing these updates, opens up about his fears of Elle's impending departure, earning understanding and advice from his mother.

Tensions further intensify when Nick attempts to alert Imogen about Ben's past, only to be rebuffed. A surprise visit from Charlie to uplift a dejected Nick after his exams quickly turns sour. David's unwelcome intrusion and accusations towards Charlie create a scene, prompting Nick's mother's intervention. David's veiled reference to their father leaves many questions unanswered.

A subsequent grounding and a potential Paris trip cancellation await Charlie as consequences for his actions. Despite the situation, Nick offers comforting words, absolving Charlie of any blame for David's outburst.

Across town, a downcast Tao seeks Elle's company, only to be turned down. Elle's growing closeness to her new friends, Naomi and Felix, adds to Tao's anguish. As Tao immerses himself in her online updates, he finds solace in his mother's romantic reminiscences, kindling his determination.

The episode culminates with Tao's heartfelt revelation of his feelings for Elle to friends Charlie and Isaac, coupled with a plea for assistance in winning her affection.

As tensions simmer and relationships evolve, Charlie's actions seem reckless. Now, his dream Parisian journey hangs in the balance. Can he shift his priorities and salvage his academic year?

Season 2 of Heartstopper is now streaming on Netflix.
