Episode 5 of Daisy Jones & The Six titled ‘Track 5: Fire’ starts off with the band getting ready to record. Daisy’s pill and wine routine coupled with her eccentric behavior keeps getting to Billy who tries to play nice. But Daisy is not affected as she tells Warren to stop eyeing her legs. She writes 20 songs for the band and is her impatient and excited self.

That doesn’t last long as Billy already has 13 sappy pop songs. Daisy accurately guesses that they are about his wife and the rain. She suggests that the album should be for everyone. The band members take this chance to put out new ideas which frustrates Billy. As he and Daisy start bickering, Teddy tells them to take a break together.

At the house, Warren and Eddie get ready to go to the cinema to pass the time while Graham plans to surfboard. Karen offers to join him at the beach and things seem tense. As they get ready to leave, Caroline shows up and Graham kisses her. Karen gets awkward but the couple tells her to join them.

Daisy breaks into Teddy’s place and teases Billy who is horrified. Both confess that they don’t know how to write songs with another person and reject each other’s already written songs. Billy tells Daisy that he can’t understand her hippie themes and to drop the metaphors at times.
She accepts the advice and begins humming as he plays a song that Graham came up with. Billy joins in but is perplexed when she abruptly strips off and dives into the pool. She responds that she is writing when he asks if they are taking a break. He gives her a long look before gathering himself.

Karen learns from Caroline at the beach that she won a pageant, enjoys Barry Manilow, is a pre-med student, and plans to become a doctor. Caroline describes Graham as sweet and seductive, and she wonders what she is doing with him. Graham approaches them at that precise time, looking anything but seductive as he asks if they want to learn to surf. Caroline rejects the idea, but to her astonishment, Karen accepts.

Daisy enjoys drinking, dancing, and listening to music, as for our songwriters. Billy, a guitarist, is perplexed by how differently they approach songwriting. Despite her efforts to relax him, he is uneasy. She explains to him that while they don't have to be friends, they do need to get to know one another and

They ultimately come to terms with their secrets and achieve a breakthrough. Daisy realizes that Billy writes songs about his aspirations and that, rather than that idealistic mush, he should focus on his more sinister ideas.

While surfing, Graham and Karen question Caroline if they have anything in common by mentioning that she enjoys Barry Manilow. He jokingly urges her to back off because he and Caroline have other things to do and they don't need to converse. They try to surf while laughing, but when they get back, Graham hugs Caroline while Karen is once more left alone.
