America's sweetheart, Sandra Bullock, plays a recently-released woman on parole trying to assimilate back into the world and find her little sister she was took from so many years ago, in Netflix's The Unforgivable.

What's It About?

The Unforgivable, directed by Nora Fingscheidt, is an adaptation of British mini-series Unforgiven, and follows the story of Ruth Slater (Sandra Bullock), a woman adjusting to life after prison.

Ruth served 20 years for killing a police offer and people do not take kindly to the fact that she is a "cop killer". She confronts the grieving sons of her victim who are hellbent on revenge, and her baby sister's new foster parents who don't want to let her back into her life.

Her baby sister is really at the forefront of Ruth's mind. Everything Ruth does, or has done, was for her her sister. Their parents died when her sister was only 5 and Ruth spent her life taking care of the little girl. Up until the day she was arrested. Why?

They were being evicted from their home, but Ruth wouldn't budget. When the sheriff came onto the property, she acted in self-defense and shot him. Allegedly.

Watch It Or Not?

The twist ending is a little bit of a letdown. While Bullock performed really well in the film (she always does), there wasn't enough from any other supporting characters to help build the story.

The underlying theme of familial bond was touching but overall, Netflix let Bullock down with a movie that was somewhat lacking in any sort of development other than Ruth reuniting with her sister.
