Scream VI (2023) — Review
- Mar 22, 2023
In Scream VI it has been over 30 years since Ghostface cut through our screens and into our horror hearts. In a requel-style, this sixth part takes place a year after the events of last year's simply titled Scream. It shows the killer prowling around the streets, subways, and alleys of New York City while slicing and dicing more viciously than ever.

Melissa Barerra, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding are among the returning actors. Courtney Cox portrays Gale Weathers, as a legacy character. Hayden Panettiere plays Kirby, a character who assumes to perish in Scream 4.
Main Idea
Neve Campbell's final-girl champion Sidney Prescott is gone. Her absence doesn't linger like David Arquette's endearing character Dewey (may he rest in peace). Gale Weathers makes a brief appearance. He has a fun and inventive part right before the third act, but her inclusion here is unnecessary. The 30-year-old FBI agent Kirby (Panettiere) bizarrely chose to re-engage with Ghostface. She enters the scene with tremendous vigor but unfortunately loses it by the end. Sam and Tara, Mindy, and Chad, the twin sister of Mindy, boldly carry the torch. But, they aren't the main characters in this story. Like the slasher icons of the past, Ghostface is front and center in this film. He has evolved into the main protagonist.
Sam (Barrera) and Tara (Ortega) are making different efforts to get over their horrific experiences in Woodsboro now that they have moved to the concrete jungle. Sam struggles in treatment while feeling a heavy need to cocoon Tara in safety. Tara intends on burying her past through college partying. The sisters' respite is short as Ghostface reappears in this new urban hunting area to stalk, torment, and kill.
With a few additional additions, all the qualities that constitute a great Scream movie are present. The whodunit component is expertly done, and the audience will want to try and identify the murderer. The lore grows to new heights, and the kills are harsh and significant. Sam's family history, being the daughter and granddaughter of two former Ghostface killers, continues to haunt her. The camaraderie between the core four feels genuine and true. This Scream installment features some of the best horror movie dialogue ever penned. The environment is what gives this movie a genuinely new feeling. For this franchise, New York is a vast, congested, and unexplored place. Scream VI has the impression of being a live, breathing New
Conclusion
The typical slasher horror locations, such as a cabin or the suburbs, are now larger but nonetheless claustrophobic settings. Important moments that take place in a crowded train vehicle and a bustling bodega raise the tension and hold it there for a considerable amount of time. The kills in this movie don't feel particularly imaginative or novel, but they do feel heavier, gritty, and nasty. Ghostface in this incarnation seems angrier and more vicious. A ladder was in a sequence that was straightforward in concept yet felt elaborately sadistic.
Scream IV is now playing in theatres.
