Wednesday — Season 1 Episode 6 Recap

tv

By Hugo Hatche

- Dec 11, 2022

The lead character, Wednesday seeks to conjure up Goody Addams to teach her how to harness her psychic skills. Episode 6 goes further into the Raven mythos.

As Goody will show, the Raven travels a lonely path because Wednesday's destiny is to always seek out the evil in other people. Although this is a common self-fulfilling prophecy, our favorite goth girl ends up alienating others because she is so convinced that she is meant to be alone.

Unsurprisingly, the show highlights Wednesday's antisocial conduct on her birthday — a day when meant to be surrounded by loved ones.

Wednesday expresses her annoyance to everyone rather than expressing gratitude to her friends for their compassion. Wednesday doesn't even cut her cake, which is decorated in the likeness of the Grim Reaper. Instead, she concentrates on a puzzling Latin inscription she discovers inside the tomb: "Fire will shower when I rise."

The inscription on the crypt proves the monster is somehow related to Crackstone and Nevermore's destruction prophecy because someone burned the first half of this message on their lawn at the conclusion of Episode 5.

Wednesday sees Goody when she touches the inscription. She tells her that she is a lonely Raven and that the location of the next piece of the puzzle is an old mansion with fenced gates.

Wednesday finally goes to see Xavier (Percy Hynes White). By comparing her sketch to the artist's paintings, she deduces that Goody sent her to the Gates' old home.

Although Wednesday also discovers a portrait of herself performing the cello, she leaves without saying goodbye as Xavier declares his feelings for her. Wednesday appears to shut down anyone who tries to show her affection, a behavior that will cost her some trustworthy friends and allies.
