In the fall of 2004, Lino and Amy join Zora and her partner, Ken, for a meal. Talk of how Zora has met Ken’s father leaves Lino sad over his relationship with his father.

Amy and Lino give Antonio Russo a present from Russo’s cousin in Italy. Russo, an artist who runs an art center, invites Amy to join the children’s program, but Amy tells Zora that she’s not yet ready to have children.

At the gallery, Chloe wants Amy to manage other artists. Managing the artists will leave Amy less time for her art. Russo offers Amy a full-time job at the art center but at a lower salary. Amy is even more uncertain about what to do.

Lino’s boss wants to close the restaurant due to his own difficulties. Lino plans to lease the restaurant and invest his and Amy’s savings in a pop-up restaurant.

Lino hurts his knee at work and an oncologist finds Lino needs chemotherapy and aggressive treatment to shrink a tumor before surgery. Lino cannot work, and the oncologist recommends putting Lino’s sperm in a sperm bank.

Lino doesn’t want to tell anyone about the cancer, and asks Amy to pick him up after his first chemotherapy rather than go with him. When Amy is late, Lino takes a cab to The Restaurant and realizes that he must close it.

Lino becomes weaker and begins losing his hair, but Amy can’t talk to her family. Zora stops by Amy and Lino’s house to find out why the restaurant is closed. Lino faints and the sisters take him to the hospital. Zora returns to the hospital with Lynn to offer support, and Amy tells Lino that his family should also know about his cancer.
