Episode 3 commences with a frustrating "car wreck." It is 3 am in 2003, Johnny sees Kate eating ice cream. He accepts Kate's hip rub. Both are sleepless and lonely. Kate wakes from her divorcee-kissing fantasy.

1985: Johnny tells Kate's parents he's engaged. Kate says her mother dislikes her since he broke Tully's heart. Kate tells Johnny how to impress her parents.

Kate's parents arrive as she and Johnny smooch. Awkward. Johnny started poorly. When Kate's mother informs her about Johnny, she's concerned he'll use her.

Tully interviews Daisy about the Binswanger family in 1985. Daisy claims Benedict mistreated her as a youngster when she met Tully. Tully thinks she's delirious after a nurse leaves. Danny knows. Johnny and Kate join Kate's parents for supper.

Johnny disappoints Kate's parents and confesses he's never contemplated marriage. Johnny informs Kate over dinner that he's never married. Raised cynically.

Johnny catches Kate reading Marah's computer notes in 2003; they realize she loves Ashley. Sean finds them reading her computer and asks Johnny and Kate for a "safe haven." Kate talks about "being gay" to urge her daughter to come out. Marah's mother irritates her.

Tully's new agent. Fresh web design. Her firm suggests blogging. Cloud's mom blogs and shows her astrology websites. Justine, Tully's agent, believes in the internet. Tully starts a video blog. Wilson King sued her, but she vows to fight back.

Johnny disagrees with Kate's parents about reuniting in 2003. Mom wants Sean a family. Sean's mother knows. After his boyfriend died, he married in fear. Sean's mother calls it a midlife crisis, which enrages him.
