“The Ultimate Driving Playlist,” “chill driving playlist,” and “late-night driving.” These playlist names are amongst the 70 million other user-generated driving playlists on Spotify.
With that being said, it’s clear that driving is a big thing for Americans.
Luckily, Spotify has launched Car Thing, a limited release of a device that will make your daily drives more safe, efficient, and fun.
It’s similar to most smart devices and is instructed by your voice. All you have to do is say “Hey Spotify,” then ask it to play your favorite playlist, song, or podcast. It’s that simple. And it’s just the beginning.
Here are a few of the settings the device has:
- Voice Control: Car Thing’s voice search enables you to play whatever song, album, playlist, artist or podcast that you want quickly. No need to click the skip button on your car controls, or look down at your phone to scroll for the content you want. The four microphones along the top enable the device to hear you even if the music is at full volume or the windows are down.
- The Dial: When one-handing on the wheel is acceptable, it’s the perfect opportunity to try out the hands-on dial to search through music. The dial rests on the upper right corner of the device and you can use it to browse content or select play, pause or discover.
- Recents Button: There’s a button below the dial, and with one click, you are taken to your most recently played content. That’s a great feature for those of you who have been obsessed with the same three songs recently.
- Touch-Screen: There is still the satisfying feeling of using your finger to scroll through music. The touch screen feature allows you to use your finger to swipe through your library, browse more content, skip through or tap to play.
- Preset Buttons: Along with the four microphone buttons, there are also four preset buttons along the top. You can use the preset buttons to save playlists, podcasts or albums you want to access with the click of a button.
Get on the Waitlist!
The limited release launch makes the device difficult to get a hold of. In order to get your hands on the $80 device, you have to join a waitlist and just… Hope you get chosen! Spotify is giving away the device for free to select Spotify users, who will only pay for shipping.
The device is only available in the U.S. For a chance of getting on the waitlist, you must first have a Spotify Premium subscription. Next, go to the Car Thing link, click on ‘put me on the list,’ and follow the instructions.
It is unsure if this device will remain a limited edition or if it will be available for mass consumption at any point.
Well, there it is folks! If you are interested in getting this device, good luck in getting on the list and happy streaming!
