How I discovered the Sunset Lamp
I was a little late in signing my lease for a new apartment with roommates. When I finally got around to it, I looked at the contract and saw I got stuck in the room without a window, which means no sun or sunset… Once again, my procrastinator tendencies win.
For someone with a bit of insomnia, this seemed like a great thing… But then I remember the feeling of looking out the big window in my old room and enjoying the beautiful sunset every evening.
After lots of scrolling through TikTok (wow, it’s almost as if my phone… heard me) I came across a trendy new device called the “Sunset Lamp.” I had heard of sun lamps, and that was one option I was considering, but the Sunset Lamp looked much more alluring.
To fix my windowless room problem and also check out all the hype, I decided to get one. I ordered mine off of Amazon for the small price of thirty dollars.
How does the Sunset Lamp work?
The product comes on a tripod stand holding up a fish-eye lens light, which casts an illumination that resembles a sunset. There are many different lighting options, each with three rings of light, allowing the “sunset” to extend far.
The colors compliment each other's light and cool tones as well as a few solid color tones. There is also the option to brighten the lighting or dim it, which is perfect for bedtime if you are looking for a night light.
The light is designed to create a relaxing ambiance in your home. Some even use it for photoshoot purposes as it creates the perfect golden-hour lighting. Because this device is fairly small (about 10 inches), it goes unnoticeable. It is easy to move around and the chance of it being knocked down and breaking is nearly impossible.
Another great aspect of the product is that there is no assembly required or additional appliances such as batteries or bulbs needed to get it working. You simply just place it, plug it in then turn it on. It’s as simple as that.
My opinion on the Sunset Lamp
In my opinion, the sunset lamp creates a great ambiance. It is good for setting the mood or even for parties, with the flashing light/strobe option. However, it does require a dark setting, so it probably wouldn’t be useful in broad daylight.
Other than that and maybe future photoshoots, I don’t see myself using it too much. As someone who has insomnia, I prefer a small relaxing light that emits one standard and consistent color that is subtle. I’m not a huge fan of the large span of room space it covers.
If you are someone looking for a calm night light to help you sleep at night, I would recommend a salt lamp. Mine sits right next to my bed and is the perfect amount of lighting to soothe me to sleep.
In conclusion
The Sunset lamp is a great product. If your goal is to have a light that creates a great nighttime vibe or could be added to a photo shoot, then this is it. If you are looking for a daytime lamp, or soothing night light to put yourself to bed, I would say you could hold off on this one.
On the other hand, if you are someone living in a rainy, cloudy place, you might want to look into this. A little sunlight never hurts anybody and there are great mental health benefits that come from it.
Perhaps this product brings the beautiful sunset that you might have missed to your room, perhaps you take a picture with it or use it for a gathering. Whichever way you use it, it is sure to provide aesthetically pleasing lighting as well as efficiency.
