Today Saturday February 12th, we have a couple of big fights under UFC card 271. The fights are scheduled to take place at the Houston Toyota Center, starting at Here’s a preview of the main card fights lined up.
Israel Adesanya (c) vs. Robert Whittaker
Belt-holder Adesanya first met Whittaker back in 2019. Whittaker couldn’t handle the “Style Bender”‘s super technical and dynamic striking. Whittaker essentially suffered two knock outs in that fight, but he was saved by the bell in the first round. The second one put him to sleep.
Whittaker’s been working hard though. He’s beaten some tough opponents over the past couple of years that have earned him this rematch. Will it be enough to overturn the current title holder and win the Middleweight belt? Odds are still in Adesanya’s favor.
Derrick Lewis vs. Tai Tuivasa
In the night’s heavyweight bout, Lewis and Tuivasa face off. These two contenders have a combined total of 33 knockouts. Lewis is arguably one of the most formidable heavy-hitters in this category, but Tuivasa is coming off a four-fight winning streak.
Will Tuivasa get to do his well-known, post-victory routine where he chugs beer out of a shoe?
Jared Cannonier vs. Derek Brunson
In another Middleweight fight, Brunson is looking to extend his winning streak to six. He’s only had 7 total career losses, most of which came at the hands of championship holders.
Cannonier on the other hand actually started in the UFC as a heavyweight before dropping a couple of weight classes. It proved to be a wise career move so far, with his only loss at the hands of Whittaker.
Odds are on Brunson on this one.
Kyler Phillips vs. Marcelo Rojo
In our Bantamweight fight, we have to fighters both coming off recent losses so this one is pretty up in the air.
Phillips is our shiny, young prospect who seems to be pretty well-rounded with training in both karate, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu. Rojo is also only about 1-year new to the UFC. He’s a better striker than he is a wrestler, so I’m expecting Phillips to try and take him to the ground.
Bobby Green vs. Nasrat Haqparast
Last but not least is our Lightweight bout to kick off the main card at the start of the night. This one is an interesting match up. Both guys have had tough up-and-down journeys over the past few years and are both in need of a win.
Betting sites have Green has the likely win but I think this one is up for grabs.
