UFC 274 took place this last Saturday on May 7th and we saw a great, albeit short, main event.
Weigh-Ins
It all started with weigh-ins the day before. The match up between title holder Charles Oliveira and contender Justin Gaethje for the lightweight division title was brimming with anticipation.
But Oliveira missed his weigh-in by half a pound. Gaethje agreed to still fight Oliveira the next day. But because Oliveira missed his weigh-in, he needed to vacate the title he’s held for over a year now.
Fight
The fight only lasted a few minutes in the first round. But men immediately came out swinging but Oliveira was able to land three different successful take downs.
Gaethje escape the first chokehold to get back on his feet. But ultimately tapped out in the second rear naked choke. .
Because of the weigh-in issue, Oliveira no longer holds the title. He’ll need to win one more contender match to take back the belt that was his.
But he showed to everyone in the stadium and that was watching, that he is still the best lightweight fighter in the game.
