People that hate Apple are everywhere, and Apple has some of the most diehard haters of any company in the world. Those that hate Apple go to Apple blogs and leave angry comments that can be surprisingly creative. And yet, Apple-haters come in many varieties: there’s the Apple-hater who hates Apple for what it is; another who hates Apple because they left their old mobile operating system behind; a third type who thinks Steve Jobs was a control freak with a messiah complex – and more.

In this blog post, we explore five types of Apple haters based on observation from extensive research. Which kind of Apple-hater are you?

1. Fanboy critic

This is the first type of Apple-hater, and possibly the most common one on earth.

There’s a subset of fanboys who have been labeled “Apple Kool-Aid drinkers” by critics because they drink so much Apple Kool-Aid that it has replaced their blood as an oxygen carrier in some cases.

These people aren’t necessarily crazy or believe everything Apple does is perfect—they just think Apple makes good products across all price ranges for different demographics. They’re not blind to any flaws in those products either— these critics’ favorite pastime is pointing out every little flaw with each new iteration of the iPhone as if no other phone had ever made mistakes before.

They often say the harshest feedback comes from those that love you the most.

2. Former lover

Remember that jealous ex, who you left scorned? Well, it will be hard for iOS to forget those that left them behind for Android or Windows phones.

Sometimes people try out an iPhone and it’s just not their thing, so they go looking elsewhere for another mobile OS because there are only two real choices right now. They loved everything about Apple except iOS—but then something happened that made them switch operating systems forever.

Maybe they didn’t like how long it took to update apps in the App Store; maybe iCloud was making their devices flakey; maybe iMessage failed too many times on them, or maybe Apple Maps turned them into a directionless wanderer, or maybe they don’t like Apple’s closed ecosystem.

Former Apple lovers will claim that those that are still fanboys should be able to see through Apple’s marketing and realize their devices are inferior, but Android phones suffer from similar problems such as fragmentation (probably even more than iOS) and there aren’t any Apple-like events where Google apologizes for all of its mistakes in one big presentation either.

3. The “Steve Jobs was a control freak with a messiah complex”

Whether you loved Steve Jobs or hated him, it can probably be agreed upon by everyone involved that he was an extremely passionate guy who did whatever it took to get his wway—even if it meant throwing his employees under the bus or cutting off Apple’s nose to spite its face. Apple haters will say that Jobs was a control freak with an ego who wanted everyone else in Apple to have one-track minds just like him, but they don’t realize how much Apple has changed without Steve Jobs at the helm anymore—and it hasn’t been pretty so far.

4. The “Apple is ridiculously overpriced”

This person hates Apple because their products are way more expensive than Android equivalents and there doesn’t seem to be any logical reason for them being priced like they are (such as premium hardware). They’ll argue until they’re blue in the face about how you can get better specs on other devices, but then Apple haters will point out that Apple devices outperform their Android counterparts in just about every benchmark. Apple products are expensive because Apple has to pay its employees well, give its customers excellent customer service, and still turn a profit somehow—and all of those things cost money.

5. The “I hate Apple but I don’t know why”

This person hates Apple for reasons no one can quite figure out other than the fact they seem envious of Apple fans or something like that, so they bash Apple constantly online while trying to act superior even though they’re not. They dislike everything about Apple from design to usability; maybe it’s Apple’s closed ecosystem, maybe it’s an Apple hater who doesn’t even own Apple products, or maybe they’re just bitter that Apple has left them behind.

So which type of Apple-hater are you?

Overall, people that hate Apple will claim that Apple fans are delusional or ignorant, but Apple has one of the highest customer satisfaction rates in the industry according to J.D. Power and Associates—and Apple also has a huge base of satisfied customers who continue to buy Apple products even though they could probably find cheaper alternatives elsewhere if they wanted to save money (but people love Apple so much they don’t want to get their devices anywhere else). Apple haters will claim Apple fans are brainwashed, but Apple doesn’t pay anyone to write positive things about Apple online and most of the people bashing Apple online aren’t even Apple customers themselves.
