Yellowstone Season 4 Episode 5 Recap

Let’s catch up on the latest Yellowstone episode. We’re still in the aftermath of the attack and the storylines are moving a little slow. It seems like things might be coming to a head for certain characters. Let’s recap.

Cold Open

John goes about his daily routine in an empty house after Kayce’s departure with Monica and Tate. Being alone isn’t new to him, but you can tell he misses the company.

Beth is the only one there and they share a special bonding moment. It seems that John is starting to develop stronger relationships with his family in light of recent events.

The Ranch

Lloyd is still on Rip’s s*** list for breaking the rules about fighting. As low man on the totem pole, he’s made to ride the mare, teach Carter how to saddle a horse, and barely get a chance at breaking in the new horses.

You’d think that for all he’s done for the ranch (he’s done a lot of dirty work), he’d be treated a little better. But now he feels like an outcast at the bunkhouse. To make matters worse, he can’t even take a late night stroll on the grounds without seeing Walker and Laramie together.

Protesters in Montana?

Kayce pulls up to work at the livestock commission office only to be met with a gaggle of protestors. Women in their bras pour red paint on themselves, the crowd throws rocks, and Kayce gets assaulted.

Yellowstone Season 4 Episode 5 Recap

He defends himself while his fellow officer draw his gun, all while the protestor film, of course.  When John gets called to the scene by the sheriff, he presses charges against the organizer, Summer Higgins.

We learn she is protesting animal cruelty and the Livestock Commission that seems to exacerbate it. John feels guilty later and bails her out and attempts to show her the Yellowstone to gain her understanding.

Beth

Beth is trying out a new diet: intermittent fasting. Only coffee and cigarettes before noon, then she can eat whatever she wants until she starts drinking at 6.

She tells her father she’s taking the job offer at Market Equities. They sweetened the deal by giving her controlling interest of Schwartz & Meyer (the company she used to work for that fired her).

Nothing gives her greater joy than driving 7 hours to Utah to inform Bob Schwartz himself that she’s his boss and firing him.

The Man Behind the Dutton Attack

Jamie calls the warden’s office for info on the inmate lead they have, whose name is Terrell Riggins. He visits him in prison and gets him to talk by guaranteeing immunity.

It's obvious Riggins isn’t the real man behind the mask. He believes it’s his biological father, Garrett, who pulled the strings since his name was on the visit list.

Jamie questions if he knows Garrett Randall. We end scene dramatically without an official answer from Riggins. But it seems like we get a hint at it when Jamie goes back home, fuming.

He’s about ready to confront Garrett but is met with his own surprise: his ex, Christina, on his porch with his son.
