'Yellowjackets' Season 3: Wilderness Trials Continue in Riveting Drama
- Feb 24, 2025
The third season of the engrossing drama "Yellowjackets" picks up with a significant shift in environment for the stranded soccer team, marked by the arrival of summer in the Canadian wilderness. After surviving harsh winter conditions, the team faces new challenges and dynamics in a makeshift wooden village. However, not all changes bring relief. The season begins with a jolting blow as Natalie (Sophie Thatcher), the young leader, loses her older self (Juliette Lewis) to a fatal dose of fentanyl.
Meanwhile, the present-day timeline brings its own set of problems. Despite the first major death amongst the adult survivors, life for the grown women seems noticeably undisturbed. Apart from a simple funeral for Natalie, the women continue to navigate life as usual, albeit disjointed from each other. This perceived disconnection between the past timeline and the present forms a central criticism in the second season and into the third.
On a more positive note, the wilderness plot maintains its rapid pace and keeps the drama alive. With the threat of starvation and harsh weather minimized, the girls can focus on rebuilding their community. They've even managed to raise a farm of rabbits and ducks to ward off the need for cannibalism - for the time being, at least.

However, tensions remain. Tragedy, trauma, and a growing quasi-religion fan the flames of unrest in the makeshift society. The remnants of the girls' former lives and their developing survival instincts mingle to create a captivating blend of drama and danger that forms the heart of the show.
In the present timeline, the indomitable spirit of the team lives on through Callie (Sarah Desjardins), the daughter of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey). Witnessing parts of her own past self in Callie brings depth to Shauna's character. Simultaneously, rekindled romances and ongoing mysteries keep the audience invested.
While some storylines fail to gather momentum, "Yellowjackets" continues to captivate with its exploration of individual experiences and the haunting burden of guilt. The third season of "Yellowjackets" is now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime and will air weekly on Showtime.
