Unveiling Paramount+'s Gritty Crime Drama "MobLand"
- Apr 6, 2025
Paramount+ introduces a riveting U.K crime drama, "MobLand"- an epitome of darkness and raw authenticity from Ronan Bennett, who previously worked on "The Day of the Jackal" and "Top Boy". This tantalizing series takes us on a gripping journey into the lives of two rival crime families, the Harrigans and the Stevensons. Bennett, alongside director Guy Richie, reveal a unique perspective by focusing the storyline around Harry Da Souza, the loyal fixer of the Harrigans.
Initially intended as a spinoff of "Ray Donovan", "MobLand" was re-crafted into a standalone series. It debuts in a shadowy London bunker where Harry attempts to broker peace between two warring crime syndicates. The tense meeting ends in a shaky ceasefire, a settlement that dissatisfies Conrad, the boss of the Harrigans, leading him to task Harry with finding a more permanent solution.
Harry's journey is set against the dramatic backdrop of family conflict and dissension, which escalates when Eddie Harrigan, a member of the Harrigan family, results in the disappearance of Tommy Stevenson from the rival Stevenson family. As tensions run high, Harry finds himself entangled in a web of old grudges, escalating violence, and family misfortunes waiting to explode.

Despite initial pacing issues and complex family dynamics that take time to unravel, "MobLand" immerses viewers into the twisted underworld with thrilling performances from Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Tom Hardy. Eager anticipation builds as the plot begins to take flight towards the end of the second episode, with the revelation of Harry’s menacing potential.
“MobLand” faces the challenge of living up to the standards set by other power-packed series of its creators, including Peacock’s “Day of the Jackal” and Ritchie’s 2024 Netflix show “The Gentlemen”. Despite this, with the story’s unexpected twists and a star-studded cast leading the way, the series holds promising potential for viewers worldwide. The drama unfolds from March 30 on Paramount+ with new episodes launching every Sunday.
