Horror fans are in for a treat with the release of “Disappear Completely” on Netflix. Reminiscent of classic works by John Carpenter and Wes Craven, Luis Javier Henaine’s film brings to life the chilling story of a deeply flawed man whose life spirals out of control.
The protagonist, a photographer named Santiago (Harold Torres), is constantly pushing moral boundaries to get the perfect shot. He faces greater challenges when he finds out his girlfriend is pregnant and deals with it less than compassionately.
His career-driven hunger for intimate shots brings him to a gruesome scene where a decomposed body lies. This marks the beginning of his descent into a bizarre and dark reality where things start inexplicably happening, eventually leading him to lose his senses one by one.
With its cinematography effectively portraying Santiago’s unraveling life and mental state, Henaine skillfully immerses viewers in the protagonist’s journey through his horrifying ordeal. Although certain aspects of the storyline try to explain Santiago’s situation, its strength lies in the surreal narrative, leaving much to the viewer's imagination.
“Disappear Completely” is a compelling piece of horror, made even more engaging due to the evocative performances, particularly by Harold Torres. Each scene intensifies the tension, closely echoing the storytelling style of Carpenter and Craven, portraying a man’s chilling descent into his own personal Hell.
