Episode 4 of Hule’s Under the Banner of Heaven begins with Dan embracing the fundamentalist teaching. These teaching include tax evasion, blood atonement, and polygamy.
The Mormon’s controversial take on polygamy is a focal theme of this episode. We get vivid and explicit scenes of how ceratin antiquated views of women and marriage can go to the extreme.
Hulu Under the Banner of Heaven Episode 4 Recap
The themes of polygamy were not the only major focus of interest in this episode. The battle between the different religious sects (organizations) was also prominent. Dan’s brother tried to convince him to revert to the old Mormon ways and not take on the Fundamentalist teaching.
However, Dan seems to succumb to their teachings and way of living, much to the chagrin of his brother.
Watch Or Pass
This very interesting episode outlined and covered certain aspects of the Mormon religion that can be argued to be very extreme.
Still, in my opinion, the caveat is showing the difference in the different religious organizations in seeing how easy it is to sway one into a religion.
The Fundamentalist pull over Dan is an all too real scenario that happens every day amongst the common people.
If you are religious, this may be a harsh series for your watch as it may make you question your own religion.
But if you are open-minded, this may be a good watch.
This episode gets a 4 out of 5.
