TV show reboots set to air soon

Because once just wasn’t enough.  We’ve all seen Hollywood remake classic movies for years, but lately many TV shows have been getting the same treatment.  Fans of various ‘classic’ TV series want to scratch that nostalgia itch and younger generations get a chance to be exposed to some of the shows and stars that shaped today’s pop culture.

Major networks and streaming services are in the process of bringing back some of television's most memorable shows as reboots, remakes and spin-offs.

Check out these three familiar TV shows coming to streaming services in 2021:

  1. iCarly: Many current college kids will soon be reminded of the days when they would come home after school and pop on Nickelodeon for their evening entertainment. Drake and Josh, Victorious and iCarly stole the show, and now, one of them will be making a comeback. On June 17, 2021, the iCarly reboot will premiere on Paramount+. The show will feature three of the original stars Miranda Cosgrove (Carly Shay), Jerry Trainor (Spencer Shay) and Nathan Kress (Freddie Benson) plus a few more new members of the gang. The 13-episode season, airing 10 years after the show ended, will feature Carly and her friends navigating their 20s.

  1. Saved by the Bell: “It’s alright 'cause I’m Saved by the Bell (again!)” The gang of California’s Bayside High School is back - but this time as principals, parents and, believe it or not, the governor of California. The show that stole the hearts of many millennials is set to reboot. Original cast members such as Elizabeth Berkely Lauren (Jessie Spano), Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater), Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack Morris), and Tiffani Thiessen (Kelly Kapowski) are set to return along with a new young, hip-high school group, similar to the original crew. The show will touch on important issues such as class equality as the current governor, Zack Morris, closes low-income high schools and sends affected students to upper-income high schools, such as Bayside High. Look out for the show airing on Peacock on November 25, 2021, to see what the rest of the original gang is up to!
  1. Gossip Girl: You know you love me (and now, I’m back), XOXO... Gossip Girl. Attention all friends, fans, and Upper East Siders...The drama, scandal, and romance are back. The daunting narration of Kristen Bell is back along with a new group of elite private school teens. The social surveillance aspect of the show will still be a large part of the plot, however, it will also feature the growing issue of online privacy affecting teens on social media today. The 10-episode season is set to air on HBO Max on July 8, 2021. There has been no news on whether or not old cast members will return.

These confirmed series might induce a bit of nostalgia for many viewers. However, the modern twist to many of them is sure to bring new perspectives and entertainment to viewers both old and new. So, mark your calendars, rewatch some old episodes and get ready to see some familiar faces back on your TV screens!
