Tokyo Vice episode 4 begins with Samantha’s vision of founding a “visionary club.” She purchases land for her club’s construction. Jake finds Ishida’s men ineffectual.
Highlights Of The Episode
Hiroto speaks to Jake about it, who assures him he’ll look in on it; however, no stories about it till then. Jake puts Hiroto’s folder on Emi.
She transfers to a woman committing suicide in the neighborhood of Machiya. The pattern is similar, and they take off to meet the widower.
Emi and Jake check out the home in Machiya. They discover the address of the company that was hounding Hyeon-suk, the deceased.
The former pretends to be a desperate homeowner in dire need of a personal loan and writes up the legal contract to learn the legal entity gets paid in case of suicide.
A legal stipulation obligates the insurance to reimburse the loan company in the event of a death.
Review
The episode’s primary selling point was Samantha’s treacherous past. Until now, the writers had molded her obediently as a taciturn, serious, independent girl.
By contrast, the bombshell about her crimes intruded on her arc. Audiences probably won’t see her the same way in the future.
Samantha’s rise, at first glance, forced her drifting friend Emi to fall. Sato and Jake’s friendship also thrive, and it will no doubt be tested for both moving forward. Jake’s involvement with the Yakuza on both sides suggests that he will be playing a dangerous chess game.
