The film is a dark comedy set in a small town where the only thing going for it are the local tender bars. The film follows the characters as they navigate life and love.
What’s It About
In 1972, 9-year-old J.R. Maguire passes through Long Island, N.Y., to his father’s run-down house.
Searching for male influence in his young life, he falls on the unorthodox guidance and teachings of his uncle. Charlie is a charismatic, autodidact bartender who introduces him to regulars at the bar.
As the year’s pass, J.R. matures into a young man, eventually seeking to embody his dream.
Watch It Or Not
The story of a low-income child who makes a success of himself is a common theme across many entertainment mediums.
With a Great Director (George Clooney), a Great Adaptation of Source Material (Screenplay by William Monahan, Original Novel by J R, Moehringer), Great Performances in the Leads (Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan), Great Performances in the Subordinates, a Brilliant Musical Direction (Alan Menken), a Magnificent Production and Great Marketing, this is a must-see movie.
This Is A Definite Watch
This is easily a 5-star rating because I read the book years ago, and Clooney & Monahan nailed the humor and language of the book perfectly. It’s rare to find movie adaptations that can make you feel the way you did when you first read the book.
