It's Deb Ball day! Belly’s welcome into society as a woman! Downstairs, there is a surprise for her - the Deb Ball gown that she wanted from the start. And finally, Laurel comes around to the idea of the Deb Ball accepting that her daughter has grown up.
Steven, on the other hand, has some news to break to Shayla. He lost the money he had saved all summer during a poker game and is unable to afford a tux for the Deb Ball as her escort. Shayla is frustrated but gives him one of her dads to borrow.
Jeremiah walks Belly to her car before she drives herself to the ball. While out there, the two lock lips, and Steven drives up right as it happens. He is both furious and disgusted but Belly urges him to trust her.
In the Deb Ball dressing room, Belly sits next to Nicole and apologizes for the incident. She expresses frustrations in Conrad’s past but admits that he was her first love. She claims to Nicole that she is “done with him altogether” in which Nicole responds “Nobody gets over their first love.”
Fast forward to the evening of the ball. In attendance is Laurel, Belly’s father, Susannah, Conrad and Cleveland. Steven and Jeremiah are escorts in the ball.
Before the boys prepare for their grand entrance with their date, Conrad apologizes to Steven and Jeremiah for not hanging out with them more over the summer. He suggests an overnight fishing trip, and the boys agree.
Belly and Jeremiah and Steven and Shayla present themselves to society in the formal entrance. Susannah and Laurel are gleaming with joy. Until the look on Susannah’s face becomes too much for Laurel and she goes outside to seek air and cry. John follows and they discuss their sadness over Susannah’s condition. Jeremiah, who already has a few suspicions on Susannah’s condition walks in and sees Laurel crying.
After the escort dance, Jeremiah sneaks out Susannah’s phone. And for the rest of the evening he is missing. He misses the partner dance with Belly. And guess who steps in to save the day? You guessed it, Conrad!
Jeremiah walks back in with tears on his face. He knows. He goes up to Conrad demanding they speak about it. Conrad has to push him back to calm him down and instead, the two break out into a fight.
Belly and Steven stand in confusion still unaware of Susannah’s condition, until the brothers spill the beans telling Susannah that they know and now, so does everyone.
Back at the house, Belly, Stevel and Laurel embrace each other on Belly’s bed crying over Susannah’s condition. Jeremiah and Conrad sit on the couch with an apologetic Susannah. The brothers beg their mom to go forward with a trial to treat her. She tells them no, but eventually she is unable to and agrees to do it.
When the news is spread, everyone is both ecstatic and hopeful.
At the end of the episode, Belly and Conrad sit together on the beach. Conrad spills his feelings for her, and the season ends with the two finally locking lips.
What a whirlwind!
