As Mickey is working on the Trevor Elliott investigation and Jerry Vincent’s murder, he takes on two other cases.
The first case is a previous client of Mickey’s, Kym Wagstaff. Kym faces a charge of lewd conduct for sunbathing topless. She can’t afford bail and needs to be available to defend her thesis. Mickey points out to the judge that there is no complaint on file and that Kym was only topless on the public beach because the officer ordered her out of the water. The judge threw out the case and told Mickey that she would see him later for the Eli Wyms case.
Mickey didn’t know anything about the Eli Wyms case, and Mickey didn’t have a file. Lorna researches the Wyms case and learns Wyms ended up in a shoot-out and three-hour standoff with police. Jerry had Wyms checked in for a psychiatric evaluation. When Wyms appears in court, he is heavily drugged. The judge issues a continuance until Wyms is no longer under the influence of the drugs.
During his investigation of Trevor Elliott’s case, Mickey argues with Trevor about lying to him. Then, he discovers that Trevor and Wyms were arrested within hours of each other and in the same area. He wonders if Jerry placed Wyms in the psychiatric hospital to hide him.
Mickey also received new evidence about Jerry Vincent’s murder. Cisco found a picture of Jerry receiving papers from a man outside of a casino. Cisco also discovers that Jerry’s private investigator Bruce Carlin is missing. In addition, Detective Griggs shows Mickey a picture of a suspicious man outside Jerry’s office building. When he starts to head home, the man appears. Mickey returns to his office and calls Griggs as the man tries to break in.
