The Invisible Raptor (2024) - Movie Review

Director Mike Hermosa's indie film "The Invisible Raptor" is an over-the-top spoof of popular creature features like "Jurassic Park" and "Gremlins". The story turns on a genetically engineered invisible velociraptor developed for a secretive weaponization program and the ex-paleontologist who along with his group tries to track down the runaway beast following a slew of suspicious disappearances.

Hermosa brings polished visuals, and there is noteworthy humor in the film's invisibility gags and gore. However, the humour often resorts to cliches and lowbrow scatological jokes. The screenplay by Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham frequently stalls, stuck in a cycle of crude humor that often fails to rise above the quality of improvisational comedy in a local club.

Capes also plays the lead role of disgraced paleontologist Dr. Grant Walker, his performance has its moments providing some comedic relief. While the premise of the movie is original and has potential, the film's humor and writing often fall flat, and it may leave some viewers underwhelmed. The nearly two-hour runtime feels excessive, particularly for a comedy of this nature.

To sum it up, "The Invisible Raptor" might entertain audiences ready to embrace absurdity and nostalgic fun. However, for those expecting a sophisticated spoof, it might appear as a missed opportunity.
