That’s a wrap on WandaVision, and as Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans digest the finale of that series, the wait for more Marvel content will be short.
Next up on an aggressive release schedule of MCU content on Disney Plus in 2021, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is set to premiere on March 19, 2021. So, what can you expect from the second MCU series on Disney Plus? Let’s find out.
Dates
Like Wandavision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (let’s go with FWS for short), will be released in the good old, one episode per week strategy. It will be interesting to see if this is the strategy for MCU series on Disney Plus going forward since viewers have also gotten used to binging shows on platforms like Netflix, which often release an entire series on the same day.
- Episode 1 - March 19
- Episode 2 - March 26
- Episode 3 - April 2
- Episode 4 - April 9
- Episode 5 - April 16
- Episode 6 - April 23
With only six episodes, we get a bit more of a mini-series approach to FWS, in comparison to WandaVision. We aren’t sure about runtime, but expect each episode to run from 40-50 minutes.
Plot
From what we know, the show will focus on the titular superheroes, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Most recent trailers suggest we’re in for a bit of a buddy comedy, style series, with a LOT of action.
The series looks to focus on what happens to these heroes fairly soon after the events of Avengers: Endgame. As a refresher, the end of that film saw Steve Rodgers (Captain America) hand the shield over to Sam Wilson (Falcon) to step into his shoes, now that he has retired after living a full life by going back in time (watch the movie if you want to get a full understanding).
We will get a return of villain Baron Zemo, from Captain America: Civil War, the reappearance of agent Sharon Carter and the introduction of John Walker (US Agent). We may get some other cameos from Avengers like War Machine as well.
Beyond that, we don’t know a ton beyond what we can see in the trailers, but it looks like a fun follow-up to WandaVision and one that should drive the overall MCU story forward in 2021. Stay tuned!
