The Dropout Episode 5 Recap

Here is a recap of Episode 5 of The Dropout on Hulu.

The Dropout Movie Poster

Episode Five of The Dropout marks three years after Walgreens signed a contract with Theranos.

What Happens?

Dr. Jay Rosan invites Elizabeth to see a map-size model of Walgreens’ new health properties.

He and Wade Miquelon press Elizabeth to agree to get the blood testing device ready within six months.

Elizabeth and Eric’s trial lingered over Richard’s mind in 2013. He’s too proud to concede the case, and—having spied on Theranos patent documents—Richard thinks he knows who to blame.

Ian is depressed, having been stuck in a desk job for the past three years. One day after work, he receives a subpoena from Richard.

Ian feels in danger of being caught. Though he knows that what he knows to be essentially correct is what Theranos can sue him for, if he testifies under oath, he’ll be committing perjury.

Ian turns to the Theranos legal representative, who needs to show that he’s done with testifying.

Sunny’s Role In The Episode

Sunny is upset that Elizabeth has agreed to a September deadline for the construction contract. He tells her that safeguarding the information should not be a priority because she is escaping.

Elizabeth then meets with lawyer David Boies and George Schultz, who informs her that Ian’s subpoena has been issued. Elizabeth tells David that if he wants to defeat Richards, he needs to get him to discuss her.

Review Of The Episode

This episode continues to concentrate (and appropriately so) on its harsh rendering of Elizabeth Holmes.

Throughout the series, the Dropout has presented us with two contradictory sides of Elizabeth, with many scenes strongly leaning toward the latter.

As the show continues, it functions more and more as a cautionary tale about the following money, a misguided philosophy.
