The Dropout Episode 4 Recap

Here’s a recap of Episode 4 of The Dropout on Hulu.

The Dropout Movie Poster

The Dropout begins in March 2010, with Jay Rosan on his way to a meeting with the Walgreens board. Elizabeth offers Jay the idea of a large health facility with an Elizabeth-based DNA test. He approves the plan.

Complications ARise

A month later, shortly after Walgreens Executive VP Wade Miquelon allows Jay to visit Theranos headquarters, Dr. Kevin Hunter examines the company’s labs.

On their way to the laboratory, staff must be kept in the lab unless necessary to leave. This irritates Ian, who has been unhappy with management’s operations in recent decades due to the arrival of Sunny as COO.

He goes to Sunny to voice his dissent over the firing of an individual at his laboratory and notices the name “Project Beta” on the individual’s desk. Sunny acts in secret when Ian mentions it.

While Walgreens executives arrive, Elizabeth is shocked to learn that Kevin is present at their lab. She and Sunny prevented him from seeing her, making Kevin more doubtful that he had not been authorized.

Ian does his detective work. Later, he realizes that Project Beta involves partnering with Walgreens or another company to sell Theranos devices. Ian is appalled to learn the base for this, knowing the device is not ready to be tested on individuals.

Final Thoughts On Episode

The fourth chapter abandons the sleazy old men. Although there is some humorous irony in their combined incompetence, their story is hardly amusing.

It is kind of excellent to see the different characters’ perspectives. I think this helps to lend to better immersion in the story.
