That ‘90s Show - Season 1, Episode 8 Recap

That '90s Show has done a decent job of capturing the pleasant buzz that comes with a responsibility less summer. Despite the oddity that none of the Point Place kids work summer jobs - Jay has a video store shift. This is particularly true in "Summer Storm," which uses a purposefully restricting concept to knit its characters together. It's raining, and nobody wants to go outdoors.

Sherri agrees to divert Red by inviting him over to her place with fix-it duties. Kitty will have to work extra hard to get around Red while she attempts to clean up the house. Leia is sitting out in the cellar and humblebrag-ing about her "embarrassing" and entirely invisible, possibly nonexistent hickey. This leads Nikki to inquire as to whether Leia has…touched it. This causes Leia to go into a depressive state of self-consciousness. Leia extends her arms out "like a baby who doesn't want to be carried up" when kissing Jay. Gwen tells her that there are no rules to it and that she shouldn't get caught up in expectations.

However, there are more immediate issues. Jay has The Stash stashed in an old dog treat container and Kitty takes it out of the basement while cleaning. The crew breaks out for an undercover search while pretending to assist Kitty. They go through and pack the household rubbish she wants to donate. However, their pot box is quickly absorbed into a throng of identical packing boxes.

Nikki explains that hips are a secure middle ground for hand placement during romantic clinches. She says this in an attempt to heal the harm she's done to Leia's poor new girlfriend's brain. She also admits that she and Nate are still arguing foolishly about tornado safety.

It's a massive episode for Nate being a stupid lummox:

  • Misunderstanding Kitty's gratitude for his assistance with sexual desire.
  • Feeling uncomfortable over a basic description of a wooden moose.
  • Getting upset at Gwen for removing a shirt his dad sent that doesn't suit him.

They argue for a little while before coming together over how much they miss their respective fathers, who aren't precisely absent but are frequently gone from their children due to work.

The pot must be located since the siblings are becoming overly sentimental. Jay and Ozzie find it in the garage, where they put it in Red's old jacket's pocket. However, when Red approaches to take it back, Jay loses it again. He bought it at full price in 1964 at Sears and has no intention of selling it. Leia can practice the hand-hip maneuver thanks to the weed Jay places on her before he leaves to collect it (again). It works perfectly until she is startled and pushed into touching his crap (albeit, you know, over the jeans). Callie Haverda's cautious, thoughtful response is further evidence that she is the best physical comedian in this cast, which is especially impressive given the longer filmographies of some others. She doesn't even move her hand away, as though she needs to be aware of a fragile explosive or wonders if he's noticed.

Season 1 of That ‘90s show is available on Netflix.
