Spotify launches new in-app experiences

For every music enthusiast, playlist curator and podcast listener, seeking new and unique content is a top priority when scrolling through a streaming platform.

And we all know the instant gratification felt when you play a song with a group of friends and someone asks “What song is this?” and Only You’ have the answer to the question.

Lucky for Spotify users, sharing those unique songs related to your listening habits and discovering your musical quirks has become accessible through the ‘Only You’ campaign.

On June 2, 2021, Spotify launched Only You,’ an in-app experience spotlighting your music and how you listen. The experience is similar to their yearly ‘Spotify Wrapped,’ which features the top songs, podcasts, and artists you listened to over the past year. However, ‘Only You’ digs a little deeper. I’m talking about music related to the date, time, and location of your birth.

As slightly creepy as that sounds, especially for those unfamiliar with astrology, stick with me, it gets even better.

Spotify launches new in-app experiences

Here is what you can expect from the campaign:

  1. Your Audio Birth Chart: Yes, this is what I was referring to with the date, time and location of your birth. While an explanation of birth charts deserves it’s own article, I’ll give you the gist. In this musical category you can find your top artists related to your Sun, Moon and Rising sign. The Sun Sign shows your top listened artist over the past six months. The Moon sign shows an artist you listen to that connects to your emotional side. The Rising sign represents artists you’ve recently discovered and connected with.
  2. Your Dream Dinner Party: Although you might end up at a table with ghosts of artists past — His Royal Badness, Prince was at mine — in this musical category, the invitations are at your discretion. In this section, Spotify feeds out some of your top listened artists and you choose three to join you at your dream dinner party. Once you select your top three, Spotify will create personalized playlists for each artist, so that they can feel appreciated at the dinner table. I hope Prince likes Spaghetti Bolognese with Purple Rain!
  3. Your Artist Pairs: To be completely candid, this portion of the experience makes me a little ashamed of my listening habits. This portion of the experience shows your range of listening habits by grouping together your unique artist pairs. So, fine, I’ll admit, I listen to Adele right after listening to Shakira. I will leave it at that. Good luck, fellow Spotify users.
  4. Your Song Year: This part isn’t too bad...Unless you’re stuck in the 2000s. This part shows the musical eras you have traveled through with your listening habits. I traveled from 2000 to 2008. Talk about range!
  5. Your Time of Day: In this part you get to see the music or podcasts you listen to early in the morning or super late at night. Thanks Spotify for showing me that listening to Crime Junkie late at night could be the reason for my inability to sleep some nights.
  6. Your Genres/Topics: You’ve finally reached the end. Now you are left with a collection of shareable graphics displaying your different music tastes. You can send those to your friends or post them on your social media accounts. But it doesn’t stop there, you also get new personalized playlists based on your ‘Only You’ experience. The playlists will be available even after the campaign ends on June 30th!

Embarking on the ‘Only You’ journey might teach you a lot about your listening habits. You might find yourself running into a song or artist that holds memories or significance to you. Or you just might rediscover a song or artist you took a break from. Either way, you will find what sets you apart from the other 345 million people streaming content on Spotify. Make sure to check it out while it’s still up.

Alongside ‘Only You,’ Spotify has also launched Blend where you can invite another Spotify user to combine their music taste with yours and create a unique playlist featuring songs both of you listen to.

Make sure to check out both of the new features!
