Singham Again (2024) - Movie Review

"Singham Again" takes scale to another level in the Hindi-language action film arena. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film boasts a star-studded cast, a team of screenwriters, and a host of high-stakes action sequences involving battleships, helicopters, and dozens of crashed cars.

The fifth instalment of Shetty's Cop Universe, "Singham Again" portrays police officers as superheroes. Starring Ajay Devgn as Singham, Ranveer Singh as Simmba, and introducing Deepika Padukone as Shakti Shetty, the movie heroically manifests these officers as upright and courageous.

In a twist of narrative, the film draws parallels with the Hindu epic, Ramayana. Characters symbolise epic heroes - Singham mirrors Lord Ram, Simmba personifies Lord Hanuman, and more. The narrative transpositions of the Ramayana in modern contexts showcase Shetty's knack for big-picture storytelling.

However, not all is commendable. Amid the star power and intricate plot parallels, the entertainment quotient seems to get lost. The film's ambition to deliver a larger-than-life experience falls short as it struggles to balance star appearances, high-action sequences and epic parallels.

Despite the thrilling entries of Padukone and Tiger Shroff, their characters lack depth. Devgn stands out, living up to his role as the granite man. However, the villain, enacted by Arjun Kapoor, seems pale against magnetic antagonists of previous films.

"Singham Again" seems timid compared to Shetty's earlier remakes, hinting that the director might draw his forthcoming plots from South Indian cinema again to recapture lost charm.
