We’re racing toward the conclusion of Reacher season 1, with just two episodes left.
When we left things off at the end of episode 6, Reacher had begun putting together the pieces of the entire criminal counterfeiting ring, with the help of Professor Castillo. Roscoe had just killed the latest pair of assassins (seriously, how many of the assassin duos are there?). Here's a recap of episode 7.
Another Cop is Murdered
Episode 7 kicks off with another murder as we see the 4-person hit squad head into the house of Officer Stevenson. Turns out he wasn’t crooked at all, but he had been too suspicious to trust.
Unfortunately, this leads to his murder, along with his wife in a particularly horrific fashion. But, now our suspect list of corrupt police officers is down to just two: chief/mayor Teale and Officer Baker.
Reacher Lays a Trap
Reacher pretends to confide in Baker, letting him know that he will be headed back to the Hubble house that night to turn it upside down and uncover the evidence they need to bring down the murderers. He also tries to allay Baker’s suspicions by agreeing with him that Finlay isn’t to be trusted. Baker is a racist idiot, so it’s easy to fool him.
Reacher then sets up his trap for the hit-squad at the Hubble house. Luring them in, while he waits outside. We now see the hit squad is lead by Dawson, the psychopathic nephew of Kliner who we have grown to despise over the course of the season. The rest appear to be more of the disposable South American mercenary assassins. Reacher first eliminates their driver and then begins picking off the killers one-by-one. Finally the only one left is Dawson, who engages in a brutal fight with Reacher.
Side note, Dawson is a skinny little man and the idea that he is able to put up the fight he does with Reacher is pretty unbelievable. But, despite nearly killing Reacher (against all reason), our taciturn hero finishes him off after nearly drowning on the Hubble’s pool. So, the hit-squad is finally finished. Good riddance.
Meanwhile, Finlay is targeted by yet another group of assassins (3 this time) and he evades them with a little advice from Reacher.
The Criminals Start Tying up Loose Ends
Finlay and Reacher head back to the truck driver’s house to search it again, to find it is burned to the ground. The counterfeiters are clearly tying up loose ends in an attempt to keep the enterprise intact. But, Reacher realizes that the trucker may actually have hidden his evidence at his parents’ house.
Turns out they are right, as they discover boxes of counterfeit bills. They now have the evidence they need and they set a meeting with Picard to officially bring the FBI into the mix.
One More Twist
Of course, it can’t end this quickly, there’s another episode! So, we get one more twist when Reacher shows up to meet Picard, he is met with the trio of Picard, Teale, and JK Kliner, who have Finlay at gunpoint. We finally meet all the remaining bad guys.
One more episode to go for Reacher to clean up this mess and deliver justice to the bad guys! Because, we know Reacher survives and succeeds. If you’ve read any fo the books, you know this is how it always works out.
