We’re down to the final two episodes of Pieces of Her and there are still plenty of pieces to bring together. When we left off at the end of episode 6, Jane and Andy had reconnected. Jane recovered the case and leaving Andy behind in order to finish things with Nick.
More Timelines Coming Together
As episode 7 kicks off, we get a new look at the past and find out that Jane spent 5 years in prison. It was following the events with the Army of the Changing World. Now she's being released after agreeing to work with the US attorney and is headed into witness protection. We also learn that Andy was born and is now living with a foster family. We meet a much younger version of Charlie, who has been with Jane since early in the process.
We then see Jane/Laura during her recovery from cancer. It's not a pretty sight as she is receiving chemotherapy and listening to another cancer patient (Gloria) with barely concealed annoyance. Jane’s frustration with her situation and her fellow patient boils over into a heated exchange.
Her relationship with Andy has been complicated from well before the current insanity. And despite a strained mother-daughter relationship, Andy came home to help her mother recover. These scenes eventually lead to us watching Jane explain to a now dying Gloria how she has dealt with depression for 30 years of living another person’s life. It’s a powerful scene where we gain more understanding of how difficult it has been for Jane, since entering witness protection.
Back further in the past, Jane is driving the getaway van with Nick, Andrew, and Paula. They're evading the FBI. But, when they arrive at the safehouse owned by Nick’s friend Eli and his wife, they discover that Andrew was shot in the escape and is in very bad shape. Jane wants to take him to a hospital, but Nick and the crew aren’t onboard. Neither is Andrew himself, who is fully invested in the goals of the Army and sees his potential death as an acceptable outcome.
Jane eventually fights with Nick over Andrew’s condition, allowing us to see Nick’s true colors. He’s a violent and dangerous man who will not allow Jane to leave him. He hits her and we’re led to believe he causes that nasty shoulder wound that leaves a lifelong scar.
Jasper’s Involvement Becomes Clearer
Jane also discovers a recording of a conversation between Nick and Jasper from before the attack on Martin in Oslo. It proves that Jasper knew about the plans and wanted to use the assault as a way to take over his father’s company. Now we begin to understand why Jasper has been so interested in finding Jane in the present. He believes she knows about the conversation and likely has the tape (in the suitcase, we imagine).
Once Jane gets Andrew to the hospital and he dies, Jasper appears. He tells her to lie about her involvement with the Army and pin it all on Nick and Andrew. But, Jane is ready to take responsibility for her actions and turns herself in to the FBI.
Nick Makes his Return
The episode ends with Charlie and Andy in the present, headed toward Eli’s cabin, where he things Jane might be headed. On the way there, their car is hit by another vehicle, leaving Andy unconscious. She wakes up in a bed in a cabin and memories begin flooding back of being her before as a little girl. We see quick flashbacks of her in this very cabin (Eli’s) being raised by Eli and his wife when she was a little girl. She walks downstairs and we see that Nick is alive and well, and wants to reclaim his daughter.
