Comedic talents Paul Rudd and Jack Black excitedly share that their new version of the cinema classic “Anaconda” will be crawling into theaters on Christmas Day, 2025. The stars made the announcement in an entertaining promotional video broadcasted on Friday morning.
In the clip, Black starts by exuberantly saying, “We’re making a movie!” confirming the rumors that he and Rudd were collaborating on this cinematic snake adventure. This Columbia Pictures production is directed by Tom Gormican ("The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent", "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F") who also co-authored the script alongside Kevin Etten. Plot specifics, including roles played by Black and Rudd, are yet to be revealed, apart from Black's tantalizing confirmation, “It’s gonna be a big fucking snake and it’s gonna rip!”
Rudd promises the film will offer a diverse experience. Want to get frightened, enjoy with friends, or just feel like forgetting loneliness during holidays? The film will be out on Christmas 2025, he reassured. The rest of the 53-second video involves more irreverent humor and ends with Black fetching Rudd to meet their reptilian actor.
The new "Anaconda" is not a redo of the 1997 namesake thriller. Gormican's film takes a clever twist, focusing on middle-aged friends who remake their favourite childhood movie and face unexpected reality when venturing into the jungle.
Production duties for "Anaconda" have been undertaken by Brad Fuller and Andrew Form under their Fully Formed banner. This links up with a first-look deal made earlier this year with Sony division Screen Gems. Both Black and Rudd have existing relationships with Sony, with successful franchises such as “Jumanji” and “Ghostbusters”, respectively.
