Disney Plus is hitting its groove with producing and releasing content for both Marvel and Star Wars fans. Lately, a lot of the focus has been on MCU releases like WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but let’s not forget that there is a LOT of content on the horizon for Star Wars fans. Coming later this year, we’ll be able to catch The Book of Boba Fett, which will build on the hit series, The Mandalorian, but also tie us right back into the original Star Wars trilogy. Here’s a little primer for the upcoming series.
When is it Coming out?
The Book of Boba Fett is currently scheduled for release on Disney Plus in December of 2021.
What do we Know?
The new series was kicked off in the post-credit scenes of The Mandalorian season 2 finale where we see Boba Fett and partner Fennec Shand take over Jabba’s palace on Tatooine, perhaps leading to Boba taking on Jabba’s role as a crime lord in the Outer Rim.
Beyond that, we don’t know a lot for certain. But, we can expect it to expand on these two characters, perhaps entirely separately from the happenings among the Mandalorians, such as Bo-Katan Kryze’s efforts to take their home planet, Mandalore, back from the Imperial Remnant.
Is This Really Just Season 3 of The Mandalorian?
Nope. This will be a spinoff show, entirely of its own, while obviously owing a debt to that huge success of The Mandalorian. We are told that Season 3 of The Mandalorian is still coming (possibly by the end of 2021), but don’t be confused by the timing. These are two different series.
We have been told by Disney, that the various spinoffs from The Mandalorian (also including shows, Ahsoka, and the Rangers of the New Republic) will be interconnected and tell a climactic story when combined together.
Who is in Charge?
The Book of Boba Fett will be helmed by Mandalorian executive producers Jon Favreau and David Filoni along with acclaimed filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who directed an episode of The Mandalorian.
That’s some great creative firepower behind the show and a good indication that if you love The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett is likely to be right up your alley.
