Netflix recently released a new Christmas film entitled, "Hot Frosty." The story features a sexy snowman named Jack, portrayed by Dustin Milligan, who comes to life thanks to the magic of a red knit scarf and a touch of holiday enchantment. Jack's first appearance in the film finds him clad only in the aforementioned red scarf. The plot centers around Kathy, a widow and staple of her local community, played by Lacey Chabert, who is the unintentional creator of the anthropomorphized snowman with a well-sculpted physique.
The film maintains a whimsical tone without taking itself too seriously. Kathy's journey with Jack encourages her to prioritize her own happiness again, after she lost herself in her work following her husband's passing.
Milligan, an alumnus of "Schitt’s Creek," confesses he drew inspiration from notable film characters like Will Ferrell’s character in "Elf" and Tom Hanks in "Big" to channel Jack’s infectious joy and curiosity. On the other hand, Chabert brings her extensive holiday film experience to the film. After starring in more than a dozen Christmas movies for Hallmark, she has earned the title "Queen of Christmas."
Although there are speculations about Chabert's future with Hallmark due to an age discrimination lawsuit, the actress emphasizes the value of telling stories through all life phases. "Hot Frosty" is her first project with Netflix and even includes a nod to her role in the film Mean Girls, weaving the past and present together.
The combination of a unique plot, heartwarming moments, and well-placed humor makes "Hot Frosty" an engaging Christmas movie, as it skillfully balances the classic holiday spirit with a refreshing twist.
