As episode 3 kicks off, we get a flashback to a young version of Kamala’s great grandmother Aisha and Kamran’s mother in India during the 1940s, where they find the bangle. Aisha heads off with it as the military descends on their position.
Back in the present, Kamran’s mother introduces herself as Najma and explains to Kamala that she and her friends (including Aisha) are not actually human. They come from another dimension and call themselves Clandestines, but the middle eastern world knew them and their kind as Djinn. Kamala is less than happy to learn she is related to the fabled Djinn, who are not exactly on the good side in most folk tales. But, Najmi explains that Kamala can use the bangle to help get the Djinn back to their home dimension, which is all they really want. Do we trust them? Hmmmmm…
Kamala let’s Bruno in on the secret and he starts researching the Djinn, getting an unexpected assist from Kamala’s dad who translates some text for him, telling a story about the Djinn that he had never heard – about a small group of them who were exiled from their dimension and trapped on earth.
Bruno also does a bit of research into interdimensional travel (shout out to Dr. Selvig from Thor) and the two decide it’s too dangerous to try to help the Djinn at the moment. They are not happy with this development, although Kamran takes Kamala’s side.
As Kamala’s brother’s wedding takes place, we get a fun homage to Bollywood musicals, with a dance number, before the Djinn show up and attack Kamala. She is eventually able to fend them off as the DODC show up and take them into custody. Once she makes it home, she gets a call from her grandmother who tells her that she and her mother must come to Pakistan immediately because she and Kamala have been sharing visions created by the bangle.
