Does anyone else feel like we've been lacking in original entertainment for a while? Or is that just me. Most movies and streaming series seem to be based on comics, books, or just remakes of old films.
Here's a list of movies we're excited for in 2022 that don't fall into those categories.
Escape from Spiderhead (2022)
Chris Hemsworth continues his lucrative run with Netflix in this futuristic film about prisoners and mind-altering drugs. Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett are also casted.
The 355 (Jan. 7, 2022)
James Bond goes femme. Jessica Chastain mixes up her stellar performances in this spy thriller. Oscar winners Lupita Nyong'o and Penelope Cruz join forces with international stars Diane Kruger and Fan Bingbing.
The Tragedy of Macbeth (Jan. 14, 2022)
If Shakespearean dialogue is your thing, you'll probably like this. Although I was not a huge fan of the latest adaptation starring Michael Fassbender. But this one stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. It will be on Apple TV Plus.
Munich: The Edge of War (Jan. 21, 2022)
George MacKay and Jeremy Irons star in this period piece where Europe is on the brink of war in the 1930's. They play two old friends who face a conspiracy from opposing sides.
Moonfall (Feb. 4, 2022)
Sci-fi fans can rejoice at another big space movie. Roland Emmerich and Halle Berry go to the moon in this big budget film.
Kimi (Feb. 10. 2022)
Steven Soderberg, HBO Max, Zoe Kravitz, and COVID-19 come together in this thriller. Kravitz plays an agoraphobic tech worker who must go out into the city streets of Seattle amidst the pandemic. I mean, sounds like my worst nightmare too.
Death on the Nile (Feb. 11, 2022)
Kenneth Branagh (yes!!) plays Hercule Poirot in this Agatha Christie mystery adaptation.
Uncharted (Feb. 18, 2022)
Ok, this one barely made the list since it is loosely based on the video game. But with Tom Holland as Hollywood's latest It boy, I had to include it. He will also star alongside Mark Wahlberg.
Studio 666 (Feb. 25, 2022)
Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters rock out in a horror movie. I mean, what more can you ask for?
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (March 18, 2022)
We have long been overdue for a Guy Ritchie movie. If you're unfamiliar with who that is, think Snatch or Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. He's famous for gritty, gangster, British pics and they're great. More widely known are the Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downey jr. and Jude Law, and last year's The Gentlemen with Matthew McConaughey. Starring is Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza and Hugh Grant. This one's action packed.
Nope (July 20, 2022)
You know Key & Peele, right? Of course you do. Writer and director Jordan Peele follows Get Out and Us with this new horror chiller.
