We’re already coming to the end of January 2022 and if you’re a video game fan, you have a lot to look forward to this year. Let’s check out some highlights of video game releases this year that should be on your radar.
God of War Ragnarok
Fans of the long-running God of War franchise are in luck as the series comes back in 2022 with God of Ward Ragnarok, returning to the realm of Midgard, where Kratos immigrated with his son, Areus, after defeating the Olympian gods.
Both characters are now pulled into the ultimate battle from Norse mythology and the possible rebirth of their world. This will be the conclusion of the Norse saga for Kratos and promises another action extravaganza. (God of War Ragnarok was just released in January, 2022.)
Starfield
Fans of games like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout should have an eye out for this new title from Bethesda Game Studios (the creator of those game franchises). Starfield takes the story to deep space, in what is being described as Skyrim in outer space. Sign us up.
Skyrim is still one of the best games of all time, so if a new game earns the badge of a new Skyrim, gamers should be more than excited. In Starfield, players will take on a character persona and explore the galaxy, take on fun missions and search for answers to life’s greatest mysteries. Keep an eye out for it in November 2022.
Bayonetta 3
It’s been a long wait (4 years) since Bayonetta 3 was announced, but the title is slated for release in 2022 (no date announced yet). This Switch-exclusive game will bring back the title character, the gun-wielding witch Bayonetta, as she takes on new foes with awesome new abilities.
She will face off against mysterious and HUGE creatures, leveraging new skills like Demon Masquerade (where she fuses with a demon to wield powerful magic) and Demon Slave, which allows her to control Infernal Demons.
Elden Ring
If you enjoy open-world adventures, the long-awaited Elden Ring has you covered. This game promises to be an open-world spin on the game formula developed in Dark Souls, with a challenging RPG experience.
The game arrives on February 25, 2022, and will give players the opportunity to explore the Lands Between, a vast medieval world with dragons, powerful warriors, demigods, and other creatures. Players will take on a quest to restore the land and eventually become the new Elden Lord.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen
Just ahead of Destiny 2’s fight anniversary, this new expansion game brings a new story, with new raids, new dungeons, and even an entirely new weapon class (the Glaive).
When it comes out on February 22, 2022 players will dive into a story that revolves around Savathun, the sister of Oryx, the antagonist from Destiny’s original major expansion, The Taken King. It will launch across all the major gaming platforms.
Dune: Spice Wars
Fresh off the release of Dune, the feature film, real-time strategy fans can get excited about Dune: Spice Wars. The game will involve multiple asymmetrical factions with the ability to sabotage, assassinate, and spy on your opponents.
Players will pull the political strings behind the scenes to influence the noble houses of the Landsgraad. The game will also include a multiplayer mode along with a single-player campaign, but these both may come after the initial launch, which is yet to be announced. So expect it later in 2022.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Borderlands fans are you ready for a Tiny Tina game? The lovable and annoying Tina finally gets her own spinoff, similar to other Borderlands expansions of years past. But, this time we’re headed for something different. Players can still expect the Borderlands-style fighting and loot gathering in an open-world cooperative environment, but now we get a Dungeons & Dragons RPG spin.
So, along with the ludicrous number of guns, grenades, rocket launchers, etc. players will also find magic, swords, and crossbows to add to their arsenals. The game will also feature some great voice actors when it comes out in March 2022.
