Lady Gaga's Unprecedented Singing Style in New "Joker" Film

Lady Gaga, in a recent conversation with Empire Magazine, made known her unique approach to singing in the forthcoming comic book musical, "Joker: Folie À Deux". Starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Gaga brings to life a new version of popular character Harley Quinn, named Lee, in a way "unlike anything I’ve ever done before."

Gaga stated, "People recognize me as Lady Gaga, the performer, but that's not who I am in this movie. Portraying a fictional role requires a different way of singing." She emphasized taking her singing to a place where it felt like an extension of the dialogue, rather than an isolated act.

Previously, in "A Star Is Born", Gaga had to adapt her singing style from her usual performance voice to portray a rising music star, Ally. While Ally manifests raw talent, Lee is designed to be the antithesis.

Gaga explained, “For Lee, there are multiple flaws in my singing. As a professional singer, even my breathing differs when I adopt Lee's persona." She further elaborated that impersonating Lee involved letting go of her usual technical approach to singing and truly embodying the character.

"Joker: Folie À Deux" director, Todd Phillips, informed Empire that the character Lee is indeed Gaga’s personalized rendering of Harley Quinn. He added that while Lee exhibits familiar traits from the comic books, she also resembles the female followers of Charles Manson.

The movie will make its global debut at the Venice Film Festival before being released in theaters on Oct. 4 by Warner Bros.
