Inventing Anna Episode 7

In the last episode, we saw Anna and her girlfriends including Kayce and Rachel have the worst vacation they’ve ever had in Morocco, leaving one of them $62,000 in debt. In Episode 7, we hear Rachel’s story. Here’s a recap.

Beginning

Paul, Vivian’s boss, hangs around the writers’ desks in Scriberia. He wants to read anything Vivian might have on her article. Except she hasn’t even started writing. And her baby is due in 2 weeks.

The missing piece to help move Vivian’s story along is Rachel. But they haven’t been able to get a hold of her. Then they realize why she won’t talk to them.

Rachel has already written her own piece on Anna Delvey and sold it to Vanity Fair. The scoop’s out. Will Vivian lose her story?

Middle

We flashback to when Rachel arrived back in the US after the Morocco fiasco. She calls Anna persistently, begging for the money back.

Eventually, her bosses find out and suspend her, while launching an official investigation into the fraudulent charges. But even then, Rachel refuses to turn her back on Anna. She truly believes Anna has the money and will pay her back. Genuine friend? We’ll see.

Inventing Anna Episode 7

While Rachel is losing her mind, Anna hotel-hops from the Beekman, to the W, and to the Mercer, all somehow managing to not ever pay her bill. Eventually, the W calls the cops on her and she’s booked for the first time. This is where she places her first call to Todd Spodek.

Kayce and Rachel decide they need to stage an intervention. Rachel adamantly asks for her money back (for the 78th time?), but Anna gaslights her. She says that she just loves creating drama.

Kayce calls Anna out on leasing 281 Park Avenue. She shows her an article that the space has already been leased by a Swedish photography organization. Anna’s on the defensive now. She throws Kayce’s phone across the table, cusses her friends, tries to play the victim, and then makes a run for it.

We see her walking around the city at night with no home, calling her business contacts while crying. When she attempts to walk into a hotel, she’s kicked out before she can get to the front desk. Anna spends the night on a subway train, eating some fast food she found on the seat.

In one last feeble attempt to save herself, we see Anna make one deposit and one withdrawal and separate bank locations, ending up with a purse full of cash. She hops on a plane. But to where?

Running out of options, Rachel decides to go to the police. But they laugh in her face and tell her to pick better friends. So, she decides to go to the District Attorney’s office instead. If Anna thinks she likes drama, she’ll give her real drama.

End

Back in our present-day timeline, Vivian is having pregnancy complications but refuses to stop working. She knows her article has a different angle and much, much more to the story than Rachel’s. She believes it can stand on its own two feet.

In a race to the finish line, we see Vivian typing away through the night at the office with her Scriberia coworkers helping her. Just as she finishes, her water breaks.

We see her in the delivery room at the same time the story goes to print.
