Inventing Anna Episode 6

In Episode 6 of Netflix’s Inventing Anna, we follow Anna and her friends on a Moroccan vacation. Here’s a recap.

Beginning

Vivian and Todd, Anna’s defense lawyer, get their hands on some footage of Anna in Morocco a few years back. It almost looks like a commercial for the resort, except for the end where we see Anna and security guards shouting at each other.

What could have turned a resort and spa vacation into a felony charge?

Middle - Morocco

Anna is still waiting on the financial loans to come through for ADF. So why not go on vacation? Great idea. She invites Rachel (friend that works at Vanity Fair) and Kayce (fitness instructor). Noah, a videographer from Rachel’s work, tags along to film a reality show-esque special for them.

Upon arrival, the hotel concierge is having covert conversations with Anna, with Anna usually looking a little frazzled. We don’t know what’s going on yet, but we can only presume it has to do with finances.

After Kayce’s medical departure, we see hotel security bang on their Moroccan suite and demand payment, despite being asked multiple times for different forms of payment. Rachel is frightened to the point of crying and hands over her personal AMEX for them to keep on file and temporarily settle the situation. Anna goes back to her phone as if nothing happened, without even saying thank you to Rachel.

Noah tries to reason with Rachel that they need to leave. But Anna overhears and baits Rachel into going to see the gardens in Marrakech with her. And–you guessed it–they couldn't pay their tab there either.

Anna hides behind her phone and makes no attempt to offer any solutions. So, Rachel swaps her work AMEX for her personal one at the hotel front desk to pay their garden tour guide. To make sure she is as stressed out as possible, her card gets declined multiple times.

Meanwhile, Anna pesters Alan about the loan approval from Fortress. Alan says it got approved. BUT … they have one more formality to go through. A bank investigator will visit Germany in person next week to meet with Anna’s trust advisors. Anna is SHOOK.

Middle - United States

Between Anna’s loan approval obsession and Rachel’s vapidness, Kayce is pretty much over the vacation. She gets food poisoning and decides to fly back to the US – the universe’s way of telling her something wasn’t right.

After being bed-ridden for 6 days, Kayce gets an emergency call from Anna. Sobbing hysterically, Anna claims she had been mugged and lost all her credit cards. She needs Kayce to buy her a flight back to the US – but make it first class.

She shows up unannounced in Kayce’s apartment lobby and convinces Kayce into not only letting her overstay her welcome, but to borrow clothes too. It’s clear Anna is unraveling at the seams, but still finds a way to manipulate other people.

In an interview with Vivian, Kayce says the (financial) signs were there all long. Rewind. Anna never wanted to leave the hotel and see the rest of Morocco because she could charge everything to the room.

End

How can she fake that? She knows her gig is almost up. The investors are going to find out she has no money, and the money she has been spending, she’ll never be able to pay back. Noah knows something is seriously wrong and convinces Rachel to escape the country and leave her behind.

Unfortunately for Rachel, her credit cards are still on file at the front desk in Morocco. And Anna made sure to charge $62,000 in expenses to both of Rachel’s cards. Rest assured, Anna lost Kayce and Rachel as friends that weekend.
