Mel Gibson's latest thriller, 'Flight Risk' promises high tension in the Arctic skies. Mark Wahlberg takes an unexpected turn as a balding, eccentric hitman, far removed from his typical heroic roles. His target? A government witness played by Topher Grace. Michelle Dockery of 'Downton Abbey' fame escorts him to trial. Her character, an FBI agent, finds herself in an impending face-off with Wahlberg's character on a plane flying across the Alaskan wilderness. A departure from his previous battlefield-centric projects such as 'Braveheart' and 'Hacksaw Ridge', Gibson appears to be navigating different thrilling landscapes.
Gibson and Wahlberg previously worked together in 2022 on 'Father Stu,' a faith-driven drama. Once a renowned figure in Hollywood, Gibson's career took a hit due to off-screen controversies. However, his last directorial venture, 'Hacksaw Ridge' in 2016, did earn him an Oscar nomination. He also holds a previous Academy Award for ‘Braveheart’ and directed noteworthy films like 'Apocalypto', ‘The Passion of the Christ’, with plans for a sequel for the latter.
Wahlberg was recently seen in the Netflix spy comedy 'The Union' alongside Halle Berry, while Dockery lined up with Tom Hanks and Robin Wright in 'Here'. Grace participated in the highly praised horror film 'Heretic'. Lionsgate is set to release 'Flight Risk' on January 24, with the script penned by Jared Rosenberg.
