Episode 6 begins ten years in the future with Rhaenyra giving birth to her third child with her husband, Laenor Velaryon. They named their first two, Jacaerys and Lucerys. Rhaenyra’s father, Viserys, sits on the Iron Throne with his wife, Queen Alicent. Viserys’ and Alicent ‘s son, Aegon, a strong, obnoxious pre-teen, has a sister and brother, Helaena and Aemond.
An aging Viserys holds Joffrey mentioning the baby has his father’s nose. None of Laenor’s and Rhaenyra’s children resemble him. Rhaenyra hides the fact that Ser Harwin Strong is the father.
Alicent tries to convince Viserys of the truth to no avail. If Viserys believed it, Harwin, Rhaenyra, and the children would be killed or exiled. Alicent wants Aegon to rule from the Iron Throne, and Aegon agrees.
Criston, Alicent’s lover, taunts Harwin, and Harwin attacks. The City Watch dismisses Harwin, and his father, Lyonel, urges him to flee to Harrenhal, the Strong House.
Laenor wants to fight, but Rhaenyra stops him. Rhaenyra offers Alicent a truce — a marriage between Jacaerys and Helaena and the gift of one of Syrax’s dragon eggs to Aemond. Alicent refuses.
The episode switches to Daemon and Laena Velaryon who are expecting a third child. Daemon defeated the Triarchy that threatened Pentos and is offered a position as Lord of Pentos. He accepts despite Laena’s wishes. Laena faces a pregnancy complication requiring a C-section. Knowing she and the baby will die in agony, she has her dragon set her on fire.
Alicent conspires with Harwin’s brother, Larys Strong who plans to kill his father and brother.
Jacaerys asks Rhaenyra who his father is, so she tells Laenor that they are going to Dragonstone. Carlo, a knight and Laenor’s drinking and sparring partner, goes with them. Rhaenyra says, “We need every sword we can muster.”
