House of Gucci Review

The much anticipated film about the Gucci family drama and assassination hit theaters this month. Here's a quick review about the film starring Adam Driver and Lady Gaga.

What's It About?

If you don't know already, there's a slight spoiler ahead. This film covers the rise and (somewhat fall) of the Gucci fashion empire, culminating in the planned assassination plot of Gucci son and heir, Maurizio Gucci.

Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Gucci (nee Reggiani). Adam Driver plays our shy Maurizio Gucci. Jared Leto plays an unrecognizable Paolo Gucci. And not to mention Al Pacino as Uncle Aldo.

So it's an all star cast. But it's first and foremost a love story. An Italian one at that, full of passion and intense feelings. We see the beginnings of Patrizia and Maurizio's courtship and how their greed of the Gucci company completely transformed them as well as their relationship, culminating in murder.

Watch It Or Not?

I highly recommend watching this movie for the performances alone. I was slightly disappointed at the story line itself. I thought there would be more about the Gucci empire and how their style came to be (I don' tknow why, but I expected Lady Gaga to have played a more prominent role in some of the design choices of the company).

But Lady Gaga was outstanding, delivering a completely tacky yet intriguing character. And Leto was almost unrecognizable as Paolo, but delivered his pitiful character with touches of comedy.

The real Gucci family is purportedly not a fan of the depiction at all. So if anything, maybe watch it just to see what the fuss is all about.
