Halo Infinite Preview

It wouldn’t be a normal holiday season without at least one big video game release and 2021 is no exception. The long-awaited release of Halo Infinite is upon us! The game will officially release its campaign on December 8, 2021, after originally being scheduled to come out in Q4 2020, Halo Infinite Multiplayer was released on November 15, 2021, to celebrate the gaming franchise’s 20th anniversary.  So, what do we know about the game from release notes and the multiplayer version?

Formats

Halo has always been an Xbox-centered game and Halo Infinite is no exception. It will be playable on the Xbox Series X, Series S, and Xbox One. It will also be available to play on PC.

Release Date

As noted above, Halo Infinite Multiplayer was released on November 15, 2021, and the full campaign mode of the game will come out on December 8, 2021.

The Campaign

In Halo Infinite, players will once again take on the role of Master Chief. But, this time they will make their way across the largely open world setting Zeta Halo, attacking enemy outposts and helping your fellow marines out of trouble when you run across them.

The story itself involves trying to find out what happened to Cortana (you’ll understand if you have played the previous Halo games) as you take on a new enemy, called The Banished. You’ll also have a new AI partner, called The Weapon.

The Multiplayer Game

The current version of the multiplayer game offers a huge range of characters and game customizations (literally millions of variations). You can customize everything from your armor (shoulders, kneepads, gloves, visor, helmet, and other attachments). Players will be separated into controller vs. mouse players for ranked matchmaking, while many social playlists and custom matches will be open to everyone, on any device or platform.

About that Open World

While open-world games are hugely popular now, Halo has never really incorporated the concept in past games. The world will also have a day/night cycle, like many open-world games, to give it a truly expansive and ‘real’ look and feel.

Master Chief!

This game is all about the iconic character and players won’t be switching over to play other characters in the campaign game. This was a key part of the planning for Halo Infinite, according to the game designers, who wanted to get back to the core of what made Halo great.

The Last Halo Game?

The game designer (343 Industries) has no intentions of making another standalone Halo game for the foreseeable future. Instead, Halo Infinite will act as the foundation for further Halo experiences in the future. Basically, Hali Infinite is a brand new beginning for the franchise, that calls back to many of the things that players have loved over the years, but also with an eye toward the future.
